Liberals Slash 60 Suburbs from NBN Rollout
The Premier, Lara Giddings, today demanded Tasmania’s newly elected Federal MPs front-up and start explaining why as many as 60 suburbs have reportedly been slashed from the NBN rollout.
Ms Giddings said it appeared the Liberals had brought Tasmania’s NBN rollout to a dead halt.
“The Liberals’ promise to honour existing NBN contracts has been shown to be a complete lie,” Ms Giddings said.
“Comparing roll-out maps on the NBNCo website from before and after the election it appears that whole suburbs and towns have been completely abandoned.”
The areas that have been abandoned by the Liberals include Devonport, Latrobe, New Town, Moonah, Perth, Evandale, Sandy Bay, Westbury, Kings Meadows, Youngtown, Prospect, Geilston Bay, and Glenorchy.
“Brett Whiteley, Andrew Nikolic and Eric Hutchinson, need to explain why vast numbers of Tasmanian homes and businesses have now been removed from rollout maps on the NBNCo website.
“Tens of thousands of Tasmanians who would have quite rightly been expecting high-speed internet in the near future have now been left off the map by the Liberals.
“The Federal Government needs to stop messing about with this critical infrastructure and get on with its promise of honouring existing contracts,” Ms Giddings said.
