Kim Booth: Time to revisit energy policy

Posted on

Fundamental Issue is Wholesale Competition

The Tasmanian Greens Energy spokesperson Kim Booth MP today renewed an invitation to Labor and Liberal to sit down and discuss a proposal to introduce wholesale competition into the Tasmanian energy market.

“We want to fix the energy sector and bring down power prices, and it’s not too late,” Mr Booth said.

“Earlier this year the Greens invited Labor and Liberal to sit down and discuss our trading room proposal to open up wholesale energy market competition.”

“Our proposal was mocked and dismissed as naive, even after a panel of respected energy industry experts warned that Aurora’s books would be worthless under a regulated model.”

“The Liberal Party got everything it asked for on full retail contestability, and the results speak for themselves.”

“Now that the Aurora Energy sale has collapsed, the Greens are asking Labor and Liberal to put politics aside, admit that they were wrong, and revisit our proposal.”

“Selling Hydro Tasmania, as the Liberals have tried to do previously is not the solution.”
