Grain silos hotel development
The developers of the proposed grain silos hotel development has announced that the State Government’s $1.5 million grant to fund the flood levy alterations at the site will help secure the $15 million investment for Launceston.
Spokesperson Errol Stewart said he would proceed with his vision to redevelop the grain silos on the North Bank of the Tamar to create a unique waterfront 70 room complex. The new hotel complex will include conference facilities, two restaurants and a gymnasium.
By utilising the previously redundant building and maximising its position, Mr Stewart hopes to create what will become an iconic landmark hotel.
“Launceston can again become a significant destination with a substantially increased capacity to grow its share of the conference market”. “The broader vision is to leverage the existing infrastructure and amenities to create a waterfront hotel and conference precinct incorporating the newly expanded offering at Peppers Seaport and the privately owned Boat House complex”, Mr Stewart said.
In another step towards realising this vision, a new function centre at the Seaport Precinct has been officially opened by the Premier. The new centre to be managed by Peppers Seaport Hotel boasts state of the art conference facilities including audio visual technology, a new kitchen and private bar. This latest extension to the Seaport Hotel Complex represents a $1.3 million investment by Mr Stewart’s investment group.
