Around Australia cycle for Motor Neurone Disease Australia
Kim Evans and supporting riders are riding around Australia to raise awareness and funds for Motor Neurone Disease Australia and together with Guy Barnett, Motor Neurone Disease Australia Ambassador will hold a media conference at the Town Hall in Launceston today, Thursday 3 October 2013.
The Tasmanian leg of the around Australia bike ride is Devonport to Launceston (today), Launceston to Oatlands, Oatlands to Hobart, Hobart to Swansea and Swansea to Devonport (Monday 7 October 2013). To date Kim has cycled 12,453 kilometres.
“This is a fantastic effort, said Guy Barnett, Ambassador for Motor Neurone Disease Australia. Kim has excelled and demonstrated true grit in sometimes dreadful conditions. I am pleased to provide at least a little support in Tasmania.
“Sadly, one Australian dies from MND every day. MND has no known cause and no known cure. An estimated 1400 Australians are living with MND. MND is a fatal disease with most people dying within 3 years of prognosis.
“We must never give up in our quest for a cure and ensuring good care for people with MND. For those wishing to donate please go to www.nomnd.com.au or call MND Australia on 1800 806 632,” Mr Barnett concluded.
