ADVOCATES WILL SEEK TO INTERVENE IN DEFENCE OF A.C.T. MARRIAGE LAW

Marriage equality advocates intend to stand side-by-side with the ACT Government in defence of the Territory’s new Marriage Equality Act in the High Court.

Australian Marriage Equality national director, Rodney Croome, said,

“We intend to seek leave to appear before the Court in defence of this profoundly important new law and we are already working with constitutional experts to this end.”

“We will also continue to work with the ACT Government to ensure its law is as robust as possible, which may involve further amendments.”

The Federal Government has lodged documents in the Court seeking to have the Territory law struck down.
