It’s game on for volunteer leaders in Tasmania

What does game design and motivational science have to do with increasing organisational
productivity? Melbourne speaker, academic and design specialist Dr Jason Fox will answer this
question and many more during Volunteer Tasmania’s Lessons in Leadership Conference in October.

Dr Fox will be joined by Tasmanian Leadership consultant and trainer Helen Rees, along with a
number of local panellists at the two-day event which runs from 29-30 October 2013 in Launceston.

Volunteering Tasmania CEO Adrienne Picone said the biennial conference would be anything but
typical and was designed specifically for leaders of volunteers.

“In two powerful days, delegates will be brought up to speed with the latest and freshest insights
and innovations from the field of motivational science and receive powerful tools to sustain better
engagement from their team.

“We are lucky to have a keynote presentation from Premier Lara Giddings who will provide a state
perspective on lessons in leadership, as well breakout sessions on risk, volunteer conflict resolution,
employee volunteering and designing a workplace that works.”

Ms Picone said the Conference was for those trying to lead a team in the volunteering space.
“If you want to set up structures that sustain team motivation, shift well-meaning but stubborn work
cultures, enable staff to recognise the real value of the service they provide or charge fair money for
services in an industry where money is seen as ‘bad’, then this is the event for you,” she said.

“Our aim is for the Conference to assist Tasmanian volunteer involving organisations to create
positive leadership in their workplace environment through analysing and transforming current
volunteer management strategies.

“As the thought leaders in modern motivation, we want to show the States volunteer leaders how to
move from good to great.

“It’s an exciting leadership and learning opportunity for Tasmanians and Volunteering Tasmania is
proud to be able to run such a versatile and valuable program.”

The two-day conference will be held from 29-30 October 2013 at The Tramsheds, Inveresk Railyards
in Launceston. The cost is $540 (GST Inc.) and includes entry to Volunteer Tasmania’s 20th
celebratory birthday dinner on the evening of 29 October.

Registration can be completed at the Volunteering Tasmania website with Early Bird discounts
