Allum to reveal exploration of Australia’s unknown depths
The man who sent Titanic Director James Cameron to the bottom of the ocean will present his vision to map the unknown depths of Australia’s ocean floor at the nation’s largest spatial event, Ozri 2013.
Submariner and intrepid adventurer Ron Allum co-designed the submersible that took Mr Cameron on a world-record 11km-deep trip to the bottom of the Pacific Ocean in March last year.
Mr Allum said there were vast sections of the ocean floor – some just 80 kilometres off the Australian coast – which remained completely unknown.
“Learning more about the ocean floor will not only expand our knowledge of marine life, hydrothermal vents and geological plates and fissures but also help improve our nation’s emergency response and defence systems,” Mr Allum said.
Mr Allum will be available for interviews and image opportunities following his presentation.
Ozri 2013 will run from 4-6 September at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. The event is hosted by Esri Australia, the market leader in Australia’s $2.1 billion mapping technology industry.
