Debra Thurley: Can the Port of Hobart be a working port once again?

Posted on

The Palmer United Party candidate for Denison, Debra Thurley, says if elected at the upcoming federal poll she will reopen discussion on returning the Port of Hobart to its former glory as a commercial port.

“The lack of an international shipping link in Tasmania is a major impediment to import and export business,” Mrs Thurley said.

“The Port of Hobart is one of the deepest sea ports in the world and returning it to a true working port would provide much-needed stimulus to the Tasmanian economy and be a major boost for Hobart.

“If I am elected I intend to reopen the debate on this issue. I will consult with the community, industry groups and government to investigate what can be done,” she said.
