Pennicott Wilderness Journeys New Boat Arrives

July 2, 2013 – Pennicott Wilderness Journeys is pleased to announce the arrival yesterday of their newest Yellow Boat ‘Sea Dragon’, the first of three purpose built 11.3 metre Naiad vessels.

Built in Western Australia, Sea Dragon has travelled across the Nullarbor, with Robert Pennicott; National Geographic’s Traveller of the Year, taking the helm in Melbourne and driving it across Bass Strait and down the East Coast of Tasmania to Hobart.

The new boats feature a spacious enclosed cabin, with large awning windows providing a great view that allows guests to be immersed in the scenery. The vessels seat up to twelve guests and have been specifically designed to provide an intimate experience for small groups.

Based at Constitution Dock in Hobart the boats will provide new opportunities for Pennicott Wilderness Journeys said General Manager Robert Pennicott.

“It’s very exciting to think of the options these new boats open up, there is so much flexibility, we are able to customise tours according to our guests needs.

“One day we could be doing circumnavigations of Bruny Island, and the next could see us cruising into a sheltered bay for a seafood lunch extravaganza.”

Pennicott Wilderness Journeys is Advanced Ecotourism certified and measurements through the EarthCheck program show the business exceeds global best-practice standards for efficient fuel, energy and water use.

“Sustainability is at the heart of what we do, we work hard to operate with minimal impact on the environment and our new boats have been designed with this in mind.

“Each year we offset our carbon emissions through Greening Australia. These donations have planted 15,000 trees to date, which actually sequesters more carbon than we produced.”

These credentials were recognised earlier this year, when Pennicott Wilderness Journeys won the Australian Tourism Award for Excellence in Sustainable Tourism. In addition Bruny Island Cruises won Australia’s best Ecotourism business and best Tourist Attraction – accolades the business is keen to build on with the new cruising activities and boats.
