HYDROTHERAPY FOR ONECARE GLENORCHY

Posted on

The Independent Member for Denison, Andrew Wilkie, today welcomed a $500,000 contribution by the Federal Government to fund a hydrotherapy pool at a new aged care facility due to open in Glenorchy later this year.

“Soon there will be hydrotherapy services specifically targeted to the elderly and disabled in Glenorchy,” Mr Wilkie said.

Mr Wilkie recently visited the Barossa Park site with OneCare chief executive Mike Powell to see where the 136 bed residential aged care facility will be built.

“I was impressed with the 18 affordable units already completed and interested to see OneCare’s vision for community aged care facilities, the cornerstone being the hydrotherapy pool,” Mr Wilkie said.

“It was a pleasure to take the funding request for the hydrotherapy pool to the government and I am delighted to see it succeed.

“The hydrotherapy facility will mean the elderly and disabled will have rehabilitation and pain management therapies at hand, as well as a place for gentle exercise.

“This has proven benefits for people with reduced mobility, particularly those afflicted with arthritis and back pain.

The Glenorchy City Council recently undertook a services needs analysis and found an overwhelming unmet need within the local community for hydrotherapy.
