Guy Barnett: Letter to the Editor

Dear Sir/Madam

The additional 175,000 hectares of Tasmania listed for World Heritage is another Labor lockup to satisfy the Greens.

This lockup has occurred without consultation let alone the consent of those effected, and the Tasmanian public. The nomination process was flawed and breached the World Heritage Guidelines. The draft World Heritage Committee decision was to oppose the immediate listing of this area because of the lack of consultation with the Tasmanian Aboriginal community. This decision was overturned by the successful lobbying of the federal and Tasmanian Labor Governments supported by Green group representatives. Yes it stinks. Ordinary Tasmanians have been done over again by the Labor/Green machine.

Tasmanians will now be able to express their views at the ballot box.
