Christine Milne: Cry for help from 16-year-old
“People are hearing this cry for help from a 16 year old boy who is on a hunger strike at the Tasmanian Pontville Detention Centre,” Greens Leader Senator Christine Milne said.
“It is more important than ever that we get these kids out detention immediately. It is a cruel policy to hold children behind wire indefinitely. They need hope and certainty and Prime Minister Rudd should now move to get them out behind wire as soon as possible.
“I welcome news that Tony Burke said he will review children in detention. They should never have been there in the first place and I hope these sympathetic signals from the new Immigration Minister will lead to action.”
