TARKINE OFFICIALLY NAMED!
Important Step for Tourism Branding
The Tasmanian Greens Member for Braddon, Paul O’Halloran MP today welcomed news that the Nomenclature Board had decided to give official recognition to the name “Tarkine”.
“The Tarkine will now be officially named on maps, which is great news for the state and for the many tourism and other businesses that already rely on the name,” Mr O’Halloran said.
“The region is already widely recognised and promoted as the Tarkine, but having this formal stamp of recognition is still very important.”
“Name recognition is central to branding, and this will help to reinforce what is already one of the most recognisable wilderness brand names in the world.”
“It gives the tourism industry much needed certainty for developing long-term marketing strategies that will bring long term jobs to the region.”
“It’s also significant recognition for the traditional owners of this beautiful part of Tasmania, as the ancestral home of the Tarkineer people who walked the area long before Europeans arrived.”
“We knew the tide was turning towards recognition when almost ten years ago when then Premier and logging industry stalwart Paul Lennon started to refer to the region as the Tarkine.”
“It is now up to the Liberals like Adam Brooks to decide to move with the times and embrace this asset for Tasmania, or be left behind.”
