“The National Pollie Pedal from Adelaide to Geelong raised over $700,000 for Carers Australia, said Guy Barnett, former Senator today who cycled part of the journey.
“It was a fantastic effort all round from the politicians, sponsors and supporters ably led by the Hon Tony Abbott, Leader of the Opposition.
“I have been involved in most of the National Pollie Pedal events since 2002 and this was one of the toughest. Keeping up with Tony was a real challenge!”, he said.
Janis McKenna, Chief Executive of Carers Tasmania said “Carers provide unpaid care and support to family members and friends who have a disability, mental illness, chronic condition, terminal illness or who are frail aged. We were pleased our own Tasmanian Guy Barnett was cycling for such a good cause.
Carers Australia is the national peak body representing Australia’s 2.6 million unpaid carers.
