Politicians and cyclists from around the country have joined with the Hon Tony Abbott, Leader of the Opposition, on the National Pollie Pedal to raise money for Carers Australia, said Guy Barnett, former Senator today.

“So far over $600,000 has been raised on this bike ride from Adelaide to Geelong.

“I have been involved in many of the National Pollie Pedal events over the past 10 years and am pleased to join once again for a few days to raise awareness and funds for Carers Australia”, he said.

Janis McKenna, Chief Executive of Carers Tasmania said “Carers provide unpaid care and support to family members and friends who have a disability, mental illness, chronic condition, terminal illness or who are frail aged. We are pleased our own Tasmanian Guy Barnett is cycling for such a good cause in the National Pollie Pedal.

“Carers Australia is the national peak body representing Australia’s 2.6 million unpaid carers, please help them, and support Australia’s carers by donating to the Pollie Pedal.”

Mr Barnett departs on Friday and will cycle from Ararat to Geelong via Ballarat. Mr Barnett is sponsored by Medtronic Australasia on this Pollie Pedal.
