Call for Nominations for Award to Recognise the Contributions of Councillors and Aldermen
The Life Members of the Local Government Association of Tasmania (LGAT) are
calling for nominations for the third Life Members’ Award for Meritorious Service for
aldermen and councillors.
The annual award was introduced in 2011 to recognise exceptional service to local
councils by local councillors. Previous winners include Clr Judy Bromfield of Derwent
Valley Council, and Mayor Tony Foster of Brighton Council.
President of the Legislative Council and Life Member of the Association, Hon Sue
Smith, said, “The Life Members want to give an opportunity for Tasmanians to
recognise the tireless effort so many councillors contribute to their communities,
efforts which should be recognised.”
Nominations can be made by anyone on the Tasmanian Electoral Roll. Nominees
can be any councillor or alderman who has served on a Tasmanian council at any
time from 1 January 2009 to 1 January 2013.
The award will be presented at the Local Government Conference Dinner, to be held
at Wrest Point on 25 July.
For a copy of the Award Guidelines and Entry Form, please visit the LGAT website at
