Tasmania’s leaders set to debate a brighter future
Tasmania’s Premier Lara Giddings and the State’s alternative, Will Hodgman, will go head-to-head in a
Labor verses Liberal debate, hosted by The Property Council of Australia, Tasmania Division later this
month.
Property Council Tasmania Executive Director, Mary Massina, said the debate would flesh out the
important issues Tasmanians really wanted to see addressed.
“This debate is a great opportunity for the Premier and the Opposition Leader to let the people of
Tasmania know what their plans for the State are moving forward for Tasmania,” Ms Massina said.
“We’ve all heard the one-liners about jobs and a brighter future, but it is the why and how that people
want to know more about.”
In this week’s State of the State addresses, the Premier hinted that her focus for the debate would be,
on creating jobs, exploring opportunities for Tasmania in Asia and developing new opportunities for the
next generation, supported by a transformation of the economy.
“The Opposition Leader, Will Hodgman’s response focussed on population growth with a target of
650,000 by 2050, a stable majority government, cutting red and green tape and getting out of the way
of business,” Ms Massina said.
The highly anticipated event will be held in the Tasman Room, Wrest Point Casino on Wednesday, 20
March at 11:30am.
Bookings for the debate can be made through the Property Council of Australia website
www.propertyoz.com.au/tas. The ticket cost is $140 for Property Council Members and $180 for nonmembers.
