Brown Calls for Police Investigation into Bushfire
Bob Brown is calling for a thorough police investigation into the cause of the bushfire that forced Miranda Gibson out of her tree in Tasmania’s Tyenna Valley yesterday.
He has written to the Commissioner for Tasmania Police as follows:
The Commissioner Tasmania Police
Dear Commissioner,
On Tuesday evening, 5th March 2013, a fire was lit southwest of Maydena. Media reports yesterday and today are that Forestry Tasmania believes the fire may have been deliberately lit.
The circumstances lead me to believe that a person or persons lit the fire to burn out the nearby forest platform which, since 14th December 2011, was occupied by Miranda Gibson. If that is right, it is a matter of intended homicide.
A police officer attended the site of Ms Gibson’s tree on Wednesday 6th March.
I ask you to take all immediate and necessary action to discover who lit the fire.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Bob Brown
