A STATEMENT REGARDING LIVE ANIMAL EXPORTS
“Federal Opposition Leader Tony Abbott’s reported announcement today that a Coalition government wouldn’t ban live animal exports is bitterly disappointing but hardly surprising. The Opposition, along with the Government, should be condemned for their ongoing support for the trade.
“The continuing international export of Australian livestock, in particular cattle, sheep and goats is unethical, unnecessary and not in Australia’s economic self-interest. The sooner it’s banned the better, and in the interim the Australian Government should demand Australian standards including stunning in any overseas slaughterhouse processing Australian animals.”
