RESPONSE TO QUARTERLY REPORT

Posted on

Greens Treasury spokesperson Tim Morris MP today responded to the 2012-13 December Quarterly Report, saying that the State’s financial position appeared to be stabilising with further signs of improvement in key indicators.

“The good news here is that the state’s financial position has stabilised, we are net debt free, and there are some healthy signs of growth in economic activity,” Mr Morris said.

“The most important thing is that the budget forecasts were fairly accurate and there are no shocks or surprises in this update, which is reassuring news for business confidence and investment.”

“Revenue flowing from new vehicles and house sales was slightly above projections, which is another positive sign of an improvement in consumer sentiment.”

“The Greens support responsible fiscal management, which is why we argued during the Budget process for a managed debt approach as the preferred method to balance cost-savings strategies, and minimise impacts on the community.”

“We are pleased to see that this responsible approach to budget management is paying off, and that that the Budget appears to be returning to an even keel after the tumultuous period following the Global Financial Crisis,” Mr Morris said.
