ANDREW WILKIE’S RELATIONSHIP WITH THE GOVERNMENT

Posted on

Some media are likening the Greens’ so-called withdrawal of support for the Federal Government today to my decision on 21 January 2012 to end my own agreement to support the Government.

This is inaccurate.

When I withdrew support for the Government some 13 months ago I made it quite clear that it meant I no longer guaranteed supply or confidence to the Government. That remains the case and I am genuinely unaligned; my support for any particular issue in the Parliament being based on its merit or otherwise.

The Greens’ position, as is I understand it, is to continue to provide certainty of supply and confidence.
Andrew Wilkie MP, Independent Member of Denison
