RACT Insurance has established an Information Kiosk at the Sorell Memorial Hall’s Refuge Centre to assist policy holders affected by the bushfires in the south of the State.

As at 11.30 am today, some ten claims for assistance had been lodged with RACT Insurance.

RACT Insurance spokesman, Trent Sayers said the last significant bushfires in Tasmania were in 2006 and there were some 100 claims and is expected this event will see more.

“We have initiated an action plan to ensure that staff are in place to assist those policy holders affected by the bush fires,” Mr Sayers said.

“We have been working with Emergency Services and have established an Information Kiosk at the Sorell Memorial Hall’s Refuge Centre so that those wishing to lodge a claim or ask any questions can do so.”

“Staff will be able to organise temporary accommodation and emergency support as well.”

Mr Sayers said RACT Insurance will continue to work with Emergency Services to get staff to affected areas to assist policy holders as soon as appropriate.

“We will continue to update the community as information comes to hand,” Mr Sayers said.
