Kingborough Community comes together for A Day on the Beach
Senator Catryna Bilyk and Federal Member for Franklin, Julie Collins, celebrated Australia Day with approximately ten thousand people at the 5th annual A Day on the Beach at Kingston Beach.
As patron of A Day on the Beach, Senator Bilyk was pleased to open the event with Premier Lara Giddings, Kingborough Mayor Dr Graham Bury and the Chair of the Kingston Beach Regatta Association, Stuart Harris.
“A Day on the Beach is a lot more than swimming races and barbecues. It is a celebration of the things Australians value, our freedom, our lifestyle and our community spirit,” Senator Bilyk said.
“With 10,000 people attending every year, A Day on the Beach is Tasmania’s largest Australia Day event. It is a wonderful demonstration of what the Kingborough community can achieve when it works together”.
Federal Member for Franklin, Julie Collins, was there to take charge of the starter’s gun for a novelty race.
“It’s great to be involved in a community fun day like this. Especially on Australia Day,” Ms Collins said.
“Congratulations to the organizers. They do an absolutely fantastic job putting it on every year and the kids really love it.
“We’re really lucky to have an asset like Kingston Beach here and a day like this shows it off to the whole of Hobart.”
