Facebook Launches Anti-Bullying Campaign

Posted on

Chair of the Joint Select Committee on Cyber-Safety, Senator Catryna Bilyk, welcomed today’s launch in Sydney of Facebook’s Be Bold, Stop Bullying campaign by Minister Garrett together with Project Rockit, Ruby Rose andFacebook.

Based on a campaign that Facebook already has in place in the United States of America, it consists of an Interactive Social Pledge App which allows educators, parents, and kids to make a personal commitment to help stop bullying, and to show and encourage their peers to do the same.

“As Chair of the Joint Select Committee on Cyber-Safety, I talk regularly to Facebook about how they are acting to address cyber-safety issues. It is pleasing that a social media site is working proactively to help redress some of the issues that children face in the online environment,” said Senator Bilyk.

The app gives five specific actions that parents, kids, and educators commit to in order to prevent bullying.

“This app both educates and empowers children. It is important that children see that those around them are willing to act against bullying. It allows them to realise that they are not the only ones being bullied and gives them the confidence to support their friends against bullies,” said Senator Bilyk.
