BRIGHT FUTURE FOR BRIDGEWATER SCHOOL FARM
Minister Confirms No Plans for Property Sale
Tasmanian Greens Member for Lyons Tim Morris MP today welcomed reassurances by Education Minister Nick McKim MP that the Education Department had no plans to sell the Jordan River Learning Federation school farm at Brighton.
“The Bridgewater School Farm holds a special place for the many students, families and Friends of the Farm as it is on its current location at Brighton,” Mr Morris said.
“For many years now, the Brighton Council has been seeking to force the school from the site and convert the land to residential housing.”
“The Brighton and surrounding community can take comfort in the Minister McKim’s assurance that there are no plans to sell the farm.”
“The community can take comfort from the answer given by the Minister that there are genuinely no plans to force the farm to relocate and the land to be sold.”
“This farm is an extremely valuable asset in a community with too few opportunities for marginalised young people, and the farm has been of great value to many of them.”
“The community has put an extra effort into fundraising and maintaining the farm in recent times, and any farm school would be proud to have the support that this one has.”
“I call on the Brighton Council Mayor Tony Foster to stop efforts to dislodge the farm from its present location, and instead get on board with the community and show support for the farm at its present location.”
