Volunteers wanted to Make a Difference

Posted on

Volunteering Tasmania (VT) is partnering with the Tasmanian Breath of Fresh Air Film Festival,
Bendigo Bank and the Rotary Club of Tamar Sunrise, to stage Tasmania’s first ever Make a Difference
Day , to be held on Sunday, 11 November 2012 in Launceston.

VT CEO Adrienne Picone said the Make a Difference Day was a free public event to be held in
Inveresk, complete with a farmers market, craft market, healthy foods, local wines, and music and
children’s entertainment.

“As part of the day, stalls will also be providing people with information about how they can make a
difference in their daily lives as well as further a-field,” Ms Picone said.

“Tasmanians can also make a difference by volunteering their time to the Breath of Fresh Air Festival
(BOFA) or the Make a Difference Day.

“Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer should contact the Festival Director Owen Tilbury on
director@bofa.com.au or visit www.bofa.com.au.”

Ms Picone said VT was also challenging film makers to craft a three minute story – documentary or
fictional – about making a difference.

“The film could be about a volunteer in the community, overcoming adversity, improving the
environment, human rights issues, or a new technology that is making a difference,” she said.

“Short films can be entered in the following three categories:

• BOFA Make a Difference Open Award ($5,000 prize donated by Jackson Volkswagon)
• BOFA Make a Difference Youth Award ($2,000 prize donated by the University of Tasmania
and Launceston City Council)
• BOFA Make a Difference Student Award ($1,000 donated by the Tasmanian Centre for
Global Learning).

“BOFA is a festival with a point of view and aims to make a difference by using the power of film to
inspire positive change.

“Help us spread the impact of this incredible festival by volunteering at the Make a Difference Day or
by entering the BOFA ‘Make a Difference’ Short Film Competition.”

For more information about either of these events visit www.bofa.com.au.”
