Devonport airport upgrade an opportunity to grow tourism

Posted on

The Greens’ Member for Braddon, Paul O’Halloran MP today said that the opening of a major upgrade to the Devonport Airport was good news for the local economy, and an opportunity to build on the north-west region’s major tourism potential.

“It’s important to make a good first impression, which is why a modern and well-appointed airport at Devonport will be a great boost to this region’s image as an attractive tourism destination,” Mr O’Halloran said.

“It’s also great news for those local commuters who travel regularly to and from the mainland and the Bass Strait islands.”

“This upgrade is going to mean more tourists arriving in Tasmania through Devonport, and that means more money and more jobs flowing into the local economy.”

”That’s all good news, but what we should now be thinking about is how we can really maximise the benefits to the region.”

“Our focus has to be on making the most out of unique tourism assets like the Tarkine, so that visitors are encouraged to head west instead of east when they arrive in Devonport.”

“The north-west has an enormous amount to offer visitors, and the Greens are excited about the many opportunities to entice travellers using the area’s unique natural advantages and attractions.”
