Medibank Community Fund Announces 2012 Tasmanian Community Grants
Medibank Community Fund will this year provide around $40,000 of funding to healthrelated
community projects in Tasmania under its Community Grants program.
The Tasmanian projects that have been selected to receive funding. Each will receive a
grant of $13,333. The successful projects are:
‐ Community Information Support Services/Healthy Places partnership to
deliver two hands-on health and nutrition programs: Cook Well, Be Well and How
to be an Urban Hippy, to communities in Hobart and surrounds.
‐ Hobart Gymnastics Academy to help implement the Shining GymStarz program
aimed at teaching children basic coordination and gymnastics skills, educate
about the benefits of exercise for a healthy life and connect participants with
other children through a shared interest in gymnastics.
‐ Whitelion to support its At-Risk Youth Mentoring Program targeting youth in the
Launceston area through regular group and individual activities and mentoring to
promote positive connections with their mentors and the wider community.
Making the announcement, Medibank Manager Group Community Relations, Rita
Marigliani said the 2012 grant recipients have been selected by panels of Medibank
employees who make up Medibank Regional Councils throughout Australia and New
Zealand.
“The Medibank Community Fund Community Grants program is all about helping
grassroots projects meet the cost of delivering real, positive health outcomes at a local
level.
“Each grant has been selected on the merits of its application by our employees. All of
them address at least one of the grant criteria of encouraging healthy eating or enhancing
community connectedness.
“These projects are making an important difference to the health and wellbeing of specific
local community sectors,” she said.
A total of $600,000 of Community Grant funds will be provided in 2012 to organisations
throughout Australia and in New Zealand. A full list of all grants is available on the

Application forms for the 2013 round of grants will become available from July until
December 2012.
