Farmers having a field day
A farmers’ field day looking at developments by some of Scottsdale’s high achievers will be a highlight of next month’s Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association’s annual conference.
After two days penned up at Launceston’s Country Club Tasmania, the farmers will head to the north-east on Friday July 13 to visit four different locations where their colleagues are making their mark.
First stop is at Moore’s Farm Fresh Vegetables for a tour of Cameron Moore’s vegetable packing facilities, a business that started 30 years ago with Glenn and Dinah Moore growing onions and processing potatoes. The business now employs 25 people and grows and packs onions, carrots, potatoes, swedes, parsnips and beetroot for local and export markets.
Next stop is Rodney and Kate Gofton’s property for a tour of their computerised calf sheds and a discussion on the transition of the property from hops to dairy.
After lunch, managing director of Macquarie Franklin Chris Thompson will provide an update on work on Tasmanian Irrigation’s Headquarters Road Dam before a visit to the Springfield salmon hatchery, at Millybrook, where Ian Cameron will describe how they market live Atlantic salmon and rainbow trout eggs throughout Australia and internationally.
For further information on the Conference to be held at the Country Club Tasmania, Launceston between 11-13 July, contact Nardia Deverell on (03) 6332 1800.
Registrations close Friday, 29th June.
