Diabetes Tasmania reviews its services to meet future demand

Posted on

Diabetes Tasmania has announced a redesign of services to meet current demands for Tasmanians
living with diabetes, resulting in two proposed staff redundancies and reduced hours for some staff.

Diabetes Tasmania CEO Caroline Wells said over the last 12 months the organisation had seen demand
for some services decrease, while the cost of delivery had increased and philanthropic support had
reduced significantly.

“As a not-for-profit organisation we are under pressure and it is clear that as our external
environment changes and demands for services change, then so must we,” Ms Wells said.

“At the same time we also need to look at the impact that we are able to have on the Tasmanian
community and where we can affect the most influence, including prevention and early intervention.

“These changes have not been entered into lightly, but it is appropriate and prudent that we make
them in order to ensure we are able to remain relevant and viable into the future.”
