COTA Tasmania welcomes new CEO
Council on the Ageing Tasmania (COTA Tas) announced the appointment of Sue Leitch as the
organisation’s new Chief Executive Officer today.
Ms Leitch has been a pharmacist for over 27 years in community pharmacy throughout Australia,
including managing and owning her own pharmacy in rural Tasmania.
She has senior management experience in a number of organisations and has held director
positions on three branches of the Pharmacy Guild in three Australian states.
President of the COTA Tas Board Margaret Bird said Ms Leitch’s participation on a number of
Boards and executive committees over her career, contributing to policy, and participating in
projects and programs which benefited the community held her in good stead for the role.
“Throughout her career she has been exposed to the opportunities and challenges facing older
Australians,” said Mrs Bird.
“As a community pharmacist she has always had an interest in the wellbeing of the older members
of our community and has always amazed at the range of knowledge, skills and experience they
possess, all of which contribute to society.
“Sue is also acutely aware of the challenges society is facing with an ageing community and the
demands on economies for important infrastructure such as health, disability and housing.”
Ms Leitch is currently a Director for Veranto, a leading disability service provider – a position she
has held since 2009. Veranto was formerly known as Oakdale Services Tasmania.
“Her considerable experience in policy development and advocacy in the community pharmacy and
disability sector, as well as partnering with other organisations to achieve good outcomes for the
community, will be important to draw on in this exciting role with COTA Tas,” Mrs Bird said.
