“Equal Pay Rally: Governments Need to Pay Up”
The Health and Community Services Union (HACSU) represents Tasmanian Disability and Community services workers and is holding a rally to celebrate their historic win and to call on the State and Federal Governments to commit to fully fund the final remuneration decision to come from Fair Work Australia (FWA).
The Premier, Lara Giddings and the Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Community Services, Julie Collins will be attending the Equal Pay Rally to outline their positions on funding Equal Pay.
FWA made a historic decision on equal pay for Community and Disability workers around Australia, ruling that gender has played a significant role in the low wages that the mostly female workforce receives.
However, FWA did not award wage increases but wants to hear further submissions on the extent of changes to wage classifications. Both Governments will be making submissions by 30 June outlining how much extra pay these workers should receive.
