Digital futurist Dr David Reiter, CEO of IP (Interactive Publications) will be giving workshops on concurrent Saturdays for the Tasmanian Writers’ Centre from 19 February and touring with two well-known Tasmanian authors, Anne Morgan and Lyn Reeves.

Based in Brisbane, IP is Australia’s most innovative independent publisher. It publishes about 24 titles per year and is one of the few independents regularly supported by the Australia Council.

Dr Reiter, whose most recent books are Primary Instinct, a satire on the education system, and the children’s novel Tiger Tames the Min Min will spearhead the tour, which will also showcase Anne Morgan’s latest book The Sky Dreamer, illustrated by Swiss artist Céline Eimann and Lyn Reeves’ much awaited new poetry collection Designs on the Body.

In his first workshop on Saturday, 19 February, Retool & Remix: Get a Digital Life, Dr Reiter will cover the key issues and challenges facing creators and content providers, as well as booksellers, librarians and publishers, as we enter the digital age of publishing. He’ll talk about how to prepare content for “multi-channeling”, where, with minimal changes, it can be published for print, print on demand, as well as in eBook form.

In his second workshop on 26 February, also for the TWC, Digital Projects Bootcamp, Dr Reiter will lead participants through the creation of digital projects and show how to employ the internet and social networking sites to promote and distribute content by-passing the traditional supply chain.

On the other days, Dr Reiter, Anne Morgan and Lyn Reeves will present readings and book chats in Hobart and in regional centres.
