An auction to raise money for the Queensland Flood appeal organised by a Tasmanian writer

Local author, Kate Gordon, has organised an International Writers’ auction to raise money for the Queensland Flood Appeal.

The auction- which is now up and running at http://authorsforqueensland.wordpress.com/ will raise funds to go directly to the Queensland Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal.

“I think it would have been impossible to watch the footage of the unfolding crisis in Queensland and not feel moved to do something – anything – to help,” said Kate, who has recently had her first Young Adult novel Three Things About Daisy Blue published by Allen and Unwin.

Kate used her social media networks to get in touch with authors and book industry folk around the world. They rallied to the cause with generous donations.

Authors Katrina Germein, Emily Gale and Fleur McDonald helped to set up the website, seek donations and organise the online event.

Donations have been offered from authors and publishers around the world and they include signed copies of Van Badham’s young adult novel Burnt Snow, a stack of cook books from Murdoch Publishers, a partial manuscript assessment by Maggie Alderson.

Bidding ends on January 24th at 11pm.
