Earlier this month, Tassieblather sent an email to all candidates in the upcoming HCC elections regarding their position on the proposed foreshore pathway around Battery Point.

On the eve of ballot papers being posted out to voters, seven of the thirteen candidates have so far indicated their stance. Click here to read their responses. None of the candidates that have replied have voiced an out and out objection to making access around the foreshore easier for all, so why hasn’t it been built? Maybe we should be asking:

A: The candidates who haven’t responded.

B: The property owners whose million dollar digs front the foreshore in the pathway zone. The zone that right now is pretty well inaccessible to all but those with the most sturdy of legs, and firm of foot grip.

C: David Llewellyn, Minister for Planning, who has responsibility for Crown Land. Who, by witholding landlord aproval, is denying the HCC ultimate go-ahead for the pathway to be built.

Voting isn’t compulsory in local government elections, but why not throw your ballot in? You don’t even have to go to the booth on Saturday morning. Though there’s nothing wrong with an election booth lamington tray really, is there?
