THE Launceston City Council yesterday slammed the Infrastructure, Energy and Resources Department for putting dollars before lives and “deliberately” creating a new black spot on an already deadly stretch of the East Tamar Highway. With a 50-strong public showing spilling into the town hall anteroom, the aldermen unleashed a tirade against the department and its plan for the Dilston bypass. Universally, they castigated Infrastructure Minister Graeme Sturges for his threat that funds would be lost if the East Tamar community and the Launceston City Council legally appealed against the department’s decision. And unanimously they passed a motion by Ald. Jeremy Ball for two roundabouts to be incorporated into the roadworks, rather than DIER’s T-junction intersection model. Read more here
