THIS is a government in crisis. The stuttering, predictable assault on the whistleblower is ample evidence of that. In absence of the bread-and-circus Premier Lennon, Labor wheeled out another attack dog.
It was Doug Parkinson, Leader for the Government in the Legislative Council. And what does he defend. Democracy? Does he champion the Public Sphere? Does he defend the right of an individual to freedom of expression? To freedom of conscience? What used to be called democratic, Labor values.
No …
( And, Hag: The meeting in Mr Kons’ Burnie office )
He attacks the character of Nigel Birch. Typical Insider Republic behaviour, saying he lacks credibility.
It’s not needed … there’s nothing to investigate, said Mr Parkinson.
Mr Parkinson said the Government had “oodles of proof” it was telling the truth, but did not provide any to the media. “If you’re going to set up a commission of inquiry, you need to investigate something, there’s nothing to investigate,” he said. “There’s oodles of proof of what we’re saying and all will be revealed in time, don’t you worry about that, and let the police do their investigating and let the police carry out their function,” said Mr Parkinson. “Kons mucked up by lying, as you call it, in Parliament and he has paid the price.” The Mercury: Read more here
• Meanwhile, the drunk old occasional contributor Hag saw something most intriguing in Burnie yesterday.
Staggering out of McGinty’s bar she wandered up past the old Police HQ, which is now office to former Deputy Premier Steven Kons.
And there, arms waving with a discernible amount of agitation was Labor’s Mr Fixit, Speaker Michael Polley, expressively addressing the air. Also present were what may have been a Kons’ minder and two gentlemen dressed exactly the way detectives dress. Most intriguing.
In the usually incoherent cliches of Hag: “The vultures are circling; the sharks sense blood in the water. It’ll take more than the Drycleaner (Pulp Fiction) – a role variously assumed by Mr Polley and Ms Hornsey – to clean up after this lot.”
