Jim Williamson lives in Lenah Valley with a retail business in Salamanca Place.

Wish No. 1
I’d like to see a pedestrian crossing at the bottom of Montpelier Retreat – at the corner of Salamanca Place. It’s dangerous – not because of your normal everyday sensitive human being who drives carefully through there, but those who think they’re in the right and accelerate from the lawn side and charge through.

I’d like to see signs saying ‘You Are Entering a Shared Zone – Pedestrians Have Right of Way’ similar to those as you’re going into Kings Cross in Sydney.

The Lady Franklin Museum’s lease should be expanded so that wider community use is possible.

At the moment it’s only open at the weekend and only for art exhibitions. The Art Society’s done wonders in preserving and caring for the place but why not use it more and for different things? Yoga classes for instance, or art classes, would be great.

The Lady Franklin Museum, owned by the Hobart City Council since 1938, has been leased to the Art Society of Tasmania since 1949. Opening hours as advertised on the sign outside the museum are 1.30 – 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.

There are no signs in relation to the public toilets adjacent to the museum but the National Public Toilet Map web site says they are open by arrangement. They were as firmly closed as the museum at 10am on Friday.

The museum, at Ancanthe Park, can be found at 268 Lenah Valley Rd which is also the terminus for the Metro Bus Service, routes 6,7,8,9 and 10 which leaves from Bus Stop G in the Hobart bus mall.
