My good friend Bacchus No-Smoke was enjoying a carrot and ginger juice at the Red Velvet Lounge in Cygnet yesterday when he heard that a national funding body has awarded $400,000 to a young woman and her animal welfare group to establish a wildlife rehab centre in the area.
Methinks no-one has told the Hobart City Council.
The State Government has turned down a request for $500,000 by the Hobart City Council to fund a wildlife rehabilitation centre at the former Beaumaris Zoo site on the Queen’s Domain. The Council had allocated $500,000 for the project, dependent on the Government matching the funding and Lord Mayor Rob Valentine says the Council will look at other funding options.
