HAVING failed to attract the Infrastructure Minister, Bryan Green MHA, to inspect South Arm Road and see for himself that there is a situation herethat requires urgent attention, I invited the Premier.
To my surprise the following Email arrived on 17 February:
“Dear Kim,
Please be advised that Premier Paul Lennon has received your invitation regarding South Arm Road. We will be in touch in due course.
Kind regards, …”
This could do the trick. Quite a few people would like to be there to air their concerns about the state of this State road. Was the Premier about to announce when work would begin on an upgrade, to include a walking and cycle way between Rokeby and Lauderdale.
While waiting for a phone call to arrange a day and time, someone called an election and a second Email arrived on 19 February:
“Dear Kim,
Unfortunately the Premier’s schedule is such that he will be unable to meet with you at this time.
Kind regards, …”
It appears as if the Premier has done an electoral runner from any chance of issuing a promise on South Arm Road and its certainly not a matter on his list of vote winners.
Is there any chance for South Arm Road?
I have always said that politicians are the shadow of the people. When the people move, so do they.
Will enough people move on South Arm Road to cause a political shadow-quake? That’s what it will take. If the people move, the politicians will too, and hay presto, the road will get fixed!
