BRYAN Green (I love the irony in that name) has given the other “Green” a serve in Today’s Mercury over lack of action regarding overloaded log trucks. (Log overloads will be fined, says Green)

He defends his “hard working” transport inspectors vehemently.

Well Bryan, as the weeds and rust gather at the Longreach inspection station and log trucks thunder down the East Tamar Highway to the Gunns chipper with logs stacked way above the hungry boards precariously poised like missiles, these juggernauts sway left and right with their bulging cargo and never in my 3 years of daily travel to Launceston via the East Tamar highway have I seen one of your “hard working” transport inspectors.

Not to say they don’t exist, but they are known locally as “Thylacines”.

If you feel these allegations are an “appalling abuse of parliamentary privilege”, I would be more than happy to spend a day filming these trucks for you so your inspectors would have some evidence.

I see at least 20 trucks a day on my trips to Launceston, so it would not take me long to gather the information you need.

It is funny though, last time this lot hit the media the loads went well below the hungry boards for a few weeks till it all blew over and then it was business as usual.

Maybe a crew could clean up the inspection station at Longreach and weigh each truck like they do on the mainland.

Wow there’s a thought!

Anyhow for now I’ll just enjoy the daily spray of rocks, sand and timber debris and the occasional smashed windscreen from the logs trucks on my trips to Launceston.

How’s your company car by the way. Not costing you too much is it? Paint job still ok?
