As the famous footballer commentator said: “I tipped this!”:
    http://oldtt.pixelkey.biz/index.php/weblog/comments/ralphs-bay-voter-backlash-awaits/

Young Hodgman has shown he has the political smarts in spades, that he is future premiership material, and from where I’m sitting, quite Franklin I can tell you he has already put the wind up a few Labor folk …

Go for it son … but do try to keep your father off the radio. It does put a fella of his porridge in the morning hearing the mouth from the south on the talking, singing dancing 7ZR.

This is great news for Ralphs Bay and the people who live in the area. The people of the Ralphs Bay have always overwhelmingly rejected this proposal (4 community surveys showing 70% plus opposition). Personally, this is one of my favourite parts of the world.

As for the Lennon Labor government it is so difficult to understand how a government that on one day leads the way on land rights for indigenous Tasmanians, – an idea which acknowledges and respects the bond between human beings and the places in which they live.

Yet on another day so completely ignores the cries and concerns of other Tasmanians about what his happening to their homelands.
I say this in no way as a swipe at the indigenous folks. All hail land rights. I do wonder however about the motives of our current state government.

Yes, what a shock – one of the major political parties in Tasmania rejecting an environmentally and socially unacceptable development.

For the Liberals, it must have been a difficult decision to make, but, what a right one.

Lennon’s bizarre rantings in response to the Lib decision probably means one just thing – cabinet will pass it onto the RPDC for the final call.

And for Labor’s sake, they better hope it will fall at the last hurdle.

Ralphs Bay. Let us not rejoice unduly. Call me cynical, but I’ve been watching Tasmanian politics for a long time. OK, the Liberals have come out at last – but don’t they know that they could cream Labor at the next election simply by offering an alternative to the log/woodchip/give away to the lowest bidder apology ‘forestry policy’ that Paul Lennon is oystered to?

Ralph’s bay is an excellent sign of the emergence of a scintilla of political nous, if it’s genuine. But a cynic might observe that this phenomenon is not new. The Libs oppose an unpopular policy: Lennon will go ahead with it; the Libs will win enough seats on the back of Ralph’s Bay to gain government. Once there, they’ll discover, oh dear, that the dastardly Lennon policy can’t be reversed, due to the nature of the contract with WC. It’s a win-win for everybody – except the citizenry.

Who really thinks that the Walker Corp will leave the Island because the Libs went boo?

Today’s Mercury suggests that the Sullivan’s Cove area is the trade-off. Mate Richo & Co do not give up that easily.
