DO I believe my ears.

No emergency listing for Recherche Bay but a rush to save high country grazing in Victoria.

Am I too cynical in thinking that dead French Explorers and Tasmania Aboriginies don’t vote and rednecks used to taking a free ride from the environment do.

Minister Campbell, were he to grant emergency Heritage Listing for the Victorian high country cattle grazers would show the Howard government as particularly partisan in relation to heritage listing.

Recherche Bay was traded off for the Howard-Lennon change to the unchangeable RFA, a claim that Federal Labor will never attack Howard with, they are too greedy for the front bench to rock boats.

This traumatized party of Labor has failed to take the lesson from the quick moves of their leader around the refreshingly honest approach to parliamentary super. Too long in the corridors they have forgotten how their supposedly natural constituency reacts.

Victoria’s high country is as fragile as Tasmania’s. High country grazing here was stopped years ago in recognition of the degradation of grazing and associated burning in a fragile environment, an important source of clean water.

To use the false premise of ancient practice justifying continuing anything would leave us without legislation restricting cruelty to animals [yes, at the time some MP’s opposed that], acts governing pollution from industry and flogging.

All societies change, their practices adjusted in reaction to the results of their experience. In both Victoria the experts have advised the primary land manager, the State government to protect the Heritage sites.

Both the Victorian and Tasmanian government expert panels recommended protection for the respective items.

At least we can be assured of Federal consistency, supporting the overriding of the recommendation by the experts. This practice should become more widespread at all levels of government.

Indeed why pay experts for any advice, lets leave it all in the hands of mugs and roll in the money, leave the rest with the muck.

phill Parsons just loves inconsistency and hypocrisy, the stuff of pragmatism. Saving forests and condemning alpine meadows, a more foreign idea, keeps in with the Howard government’s style.
