Shock at destruction of tiger-sighting area:

HANS Naarding does not believe the thylacine exists.

He reckons the Tasmanian tiger “was on the way out” when he reported seeing one in 1982.

Last week, after returning to the fateful place for the first time in 20 years he was aghast.

The forest was reduced to ashes.

Mr Naarding picked up the mangled chain of a chainsaw out of the cinders of the felled and burnt forest.

“This is devastating,” he said. “It’s such a shame to see the area being destroyed like this. The waste of timber is really criminal.”
