Public Announcement of the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front (FMLN) Committees of Australia MR
FARABUNDO MARTI NATIONAL LIBERATION FRONT
EL SALVADOR, CENTRAL AMERICA
FMLN AUSTRALIA COMMITTEES
The FMLN Committees in Australia from the cities: Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney & Hobart, respectfully communicate with the Salvadoran people, the Australian people and the people of the world, the main results of our deliberations in light of the elections in El Salvador in 2009.
The elections in 2009 constitute a crucial point in the history of the Salvadoran nation. With it our Salvadoran society can realise the destiny the people determine in these electoral processes.
Consider this:
The Salvadoran oligarchy have historically badly governed the nation of El Salvador under a variety of forms of government which had common factors:
· Physical, moral and ideological repression of our society
· Poor investment of state funds
· Incapacity to development public administration
· Lack of concern in the face of large problems for the poor population and sectors of the middle class and the small and medium businesses of the country
· Irresponsible exploitation of the natural resources and the environment
· Lack of social foresight and improvement of life and health indices for the Salvadoran people
· Demagogically driven state planning
· Lack of political and socio-economic opening for opposition political and labour organisations
· The use of fraud in the elections
· and other forms of incompetence and bad government.
In fact, the current ARENA government is the continuation of the bad government and repression; historically consistent with the oligarchic government. They have not even concluded implementing the terms of the Peace Accords negotiated with the FMLN from the start of the last decade.
In regards to assassinations, ten Salvadorans are assassinated daily in the face of the inability, and with the underhand tolerance of, the state justice and public security bodies. There are essential investigations and the execution of justice needed, the face of possible implication of state officials in homicides. The unilateral amnesty legislated by ARENA is a false instrument for the protection of criminals who were notorious in the investigations of the United Nations Organisation for El Salvador (ONUSAL) and the organisations for the defence of human rights.
We demand that:
The ARENA government direct President Saca, to put an end to the wave of assassinations of Salvadorans. The ARENA government, for a long time has lost the moral authority to govern, it has permitted the loss of countless human lives in the Salvadoran society.
That the government stop the interference by their officials in political campaigning. Their function is to govern responsibly; not to perpetuate power.
We demand that the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) cease to behave dictatorially in their electoral administration and permit the work of the opposition in the function of the same. And more concretely to implement clean and just elections as is their constitutional function.
Also:
We call on all sectors of the Salvadoran society to struggle for the right to a dignified and secure life with progress and social justice for all, and to organise with the FMLN to constitute the party of hope for the people and the political force that can guarantee a change that is longed for by the majority of the country.
We recognise and congratulate the work of the committees “Friends of Mauricio Funes” and “Salvadorans for Change” organised in El Salvador, in Australia and other countries of the world to represent the forces that have come together to achieve the electoral win in 2009.
Congratulations to Mauricio Funes Cartagena and Salvador Sanchez Ceren for their constant and consistent work with the highest interests of the Salvadoran society and we reaffirm our commitment to totally support them in their campaign for the electoral win next year.
We are united fraternally with our leadership, the candidates for mayors, deputies and municipal councillors and the grassroots and structures of the party.
Fraternal greetings to our people and the diverse sectors of society. We reaffirm our commitment to continue our assistance from Australia in crucial moments for El Salvador.
We call on the international community to remain attentive to the elections in El Salvador and from your countries of origin and organisations to help there to be just and transparent elections in El Salvador and to participate as observers for the elections.
Hope is Born! Change is Coming!
