IN all the publicity generated by the Liberals carefully placed sign on the Midland Highway (to catch the eye of Labor conference attendees returning home perhaps?) stating they will build a four lane highway, it would give the Liberals a convenient out if they could blame the federal Labor government for not committing to the road with the balance of funds to construct the improvements.
The Liberals, once in government, do not have to implement the grand vision espoused, if they do not want to (a scenario similar to the buck passing that Labour has carried out regarding the Bridgewater bridge). It would be nice to show commitment to the Tasmanian people rather than engaging in a cynical stunt to get themselves elected.
