Mr. McKim MP said:
– I’ve grown up watching a community divided and a community that has torn itself apart on a range of issues
– Many of those (issues) have been caused in the main not by the Greens
– I accept personal responsibility
– I really think it is time for the people who have the capacity and the leadership position to influence what occurs in our community, that we start to act together and co-operate and try to heal some of the divisions that exist in the Tasmanian community

“We believe that there is room for a more pragmatic approach by everyone to ensure we reach a better balance between the needs of conservation on the one hand and the social and economic imperatives of our community on the other,” Mr Edwards said.
Mr McKim welcomed Mr Edwards’ approach but said he did not believe the forestry industry had yet “got the balance right” in the way and places in which it continued to log Tasmania’s native forests. Mr McKim said.. (SUE NEALES Chief Reporter July 9.08)
