Mrs Fastbucks
GIVEN THE example of the Beaconsfield mine disaster and geotechnical warnings about rock instability it beggars belief that Premier Bartlett persists with the Hobart Wharf siting for the new hospital. Dr David Leaman, blowing the whistle yet again, has cautioned against siting the hospital at the wharf on three counts: the area is built on fill and is particularly subject to earthquake tremors, the effects of climate change (so what if water is lapping at the new emergency entrance in 50 years time!) and the toxicity of the site.
The show ground site in the northern suburbs would be far preferable but maybe the economic benifit to the northern suburbs retail sector doesn’t quite compete with pressure from retail mates in the CBD! Oh dear! Do we need yet another Commission of Inquiry into this one too?
