Alby Dallas, Jacob Atkins Students against the Pulp Mill
Activists and supporters of Students Against the Pulp Mill, will be joining the ‘Restore Democracy’ rally and march on August 23rd in Launceston as part of an organised ‘youth bloc’ in order to show that they are angry at both the State and Federal governments. The mill proposal is a huge polluting project, which will consume huge amounts of water, government subsidies, and our old growth forests, which we desperately need in order to store carbon. Young people feel that the project threatens our right to live in an economically and environmentally sustainable Tasmania. The rally, organised by Tasmanians Against the Pulp-Mill is set to start at 12 noon.

STUDENTS TO TAKE ACTION. NO PULP MILL!
Student Bloc, To Block The Mill
When asked why this campaign was so important, SAPM organiser and student activist Jacob Atkins said, “As youth, we are concerned with the mill’s onerous economic cons and the impact that the project will have on our unique old-growth forests. We must be heard in the debate over what is essentially our future in Tasmania”. The Student Bloc is set to bring public attention to the seriousness of the Pulp Mill issue, because it is especially relevant to the future of students and young people. Alby Dallas, also from SAPM, said “As the majority of students are unable to vote, Students Against the Pulp Mill are organising the bloc to show the level of concern which young people feel towards the Bell Bay development.”
