Hark back to a blustering Doug Parkinson. When the Kons affair first broke into news, he assured Tasmanians that there was ample evidence that due process had been followed – and “don’t you worry about that!” More recently, an outwardly contrite Bryan Green, who felt he had just made “a bit of a blue” and would we now please let him get on with the job. And on and on and on it has gone for oh so long now.
Dear Editor,
Premier Bartlett assures us that he is committed to restoring trust in our democracy and complete transparency as we work our way through this current political crisis. I am not re-assured.
We must beware the forked tongue of infidelity.

Perhaps we really are governed by monkeys – wise monkeys – none of whom have seen, heard nor spoken evil whilst all of this mess has been brewing.
Regardless of Premier Bartlett’s public comments, it is impossible to believe that he will allow the glaring light of transparency to shine into the pit of Tasmania’s recent governmental record. To do so would certainly bring down his government. Tasmanians must demand an independent investigation by a fully empowered anti-corruption body or commissioner. It is the only path available now to the restoration of trust.
Yours sincerely,
